Lazar returns for 2019

HAMILTON - The Hamilton Cardinals have re-signed Left Handed Pitcher Chris Lazar (Mississauga) for the 2019 season.

Chris Lazar, “I’m very excited to be back for my 4th season with the Cardinals. This is easily the most excited I’ve been for the season since I came into the league. This season holds a different set of expectations from seasons past, and it’ll be exciting to see just how we stack up. We know we have to talent to compete for a championship, and we’re excited to prove it to the rest of the league. We’re no longer the underdogs, and that’s perfectly fine with us. We’ve arrived, and we’re only just getting started.”

The 2 time IBL all-star will again return to anchor the Cardinals pitching staff. Last season Chris had a 3-3 record with a 3.78 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 7 walks in 54.2 Innings pitched. Over his 3 year career Chris has a 7-12 record with 85 strikeout in 161.2 Innings.

Chris is finishing up his senior year at the University of Sioux Falls before joining the Cardinals around the end of May. “Chris has been a bull dog for us over the last few seasons, and gives us a chance to win each time he pitches.  As he has matured, he has learned to make the most of his pitches, he hits his locations and keep hitters off balance and has great determination.” Said GM Jeff Lounsbury. “He is now a veteran of the IBL and a player that we will count on to help our new pitchers learn the league.”

Last season the Cardinals went 15-21 despite not playing a home game until almost July and won their first playoff series in 15 years.

The Hamilton Cardinals are members of Ontario’s most elite baseball league, The Intercounty Baseball League. The 101 year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, established in 1919.
