Jackfish wins eighth straight

WELLAND – Welland is peaking at the right time.  

The defending champion Jackfish (31-10) beat Chatham-Kent 5-0 on Saturday night at home for its eighth straight victory.  

Brandon Hupe drove in two for the first-place club. Robert Mullen went 3-for-4, Ethan Hunt had an RBI and Jonah Weisner singled twice and stole his 25th base 

Ben Abram (7-2) struck out six over six scoreless innings. He scattered five hits and walked one.  

Barnstormers’ starting pitcher Yuri Yokoyama (5-2) was touched for four runs (one earned) on two hits in four frames. He walked one and struck out one 

Evan Morrison had two of Chatham’s six hits as the fourth-place Barnstormers dropped to 22-20. Chatham-Kent will face Hamilton in the first round.
