Wilson's first home run sinks Baycats
KITCHENER – Liam Wilson picked a perfect time for his first home run of the season.
The Kitchener Panthers’ designated hitter drilled a two-run blast in the bottom of the 10th Sunday afternoon to cap a wild 15-14 win over the Barrie Baycats. Wilson added a single and double and drove in six runs, scoring three times.
Simon Grinberg went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, Stephen Whalen connected for a solo home run, Keegan Marsden drove in two, Andy Leader had an RBI and three runs, Kenny Di Clemente scored three times and Evyn Sherman had two hits and a run.
Ted Brimblecombe earned the win in relief, allowing two runs on two hits over three innings. He walked two and struck out three.
Skylar Janisse started and went five innings, giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with seven strikeouts.
Barrie hit five home runs in defeat. Noel McGarry-Doyle, Juan Familia, Royce Ando, Carson Burns and James Anderson all went deep and combined to drive in nine runs. Brendan Colley went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, and Owen Jansen and Ryan Rijo each had two hits and scored twice.
Brad Grieveson (4-1) took the loss after five innings of relief. Two of the three runs he allowed were earned, and he scattered seven hits while striking out three.
Evan Soules started and lasted just two innings, giving up seven runs on six hits with a strikeout.
Kitchener improved to 7-9, while Barrie dropped to 11-8.
