Williams leads Royals past Barnstormers
CHATHAM – J.D. Williams went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run in Guelph’s 11-8 win Sunday afternoon in Chatham.
Ethan Hammond, hitting second in the lineup behind Williams, had three hits, an RBI and scored twice. Liam Wilson drove in two, Tommy Hanger added an RBI, while Anderson Fenwick, Jordan Gallo and Ashton Patterson all had a hit and scored twice.
Owen Newman earned the win on the mound after allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 2.1 innings of relief. He struck out two. Edgar Garcia worked around two hits and a walk in the ninth to pick up the save. Royals’ starting pitcher Jacob Kush lasted four innings and gave up a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
For Chatham-Kent, Tim Wagner singled twice and added a solo home run. Sadler Goodwin drilled a two-run blast four batters later in the fifth inning. Braxton Haggith went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Spencer Marcus drove in three on two hits, and Evan Morrison singled twice.
Sam McKinlay took the loss on the mound after yielding two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings. He struck out two. Aden Ryan started and went 3.1 innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Both the Royals and Barnstormers are 2-2.
