LONDON - The London Majors are happy to announce the return of outfielder Austin Wilkie for his second season in the pinstripes.
In his first season with the Majors, Austin played in 27 games while hitting for an outstanding .303 average in the regular season and .357 in the playoffs on his way to helping the Majors to their championship. Wilkie’s speed was an asset both defensively as he regularly tracked down balls in the gap while patrolling centerfield and also offensively running the bases and racking up 9 stolen bases along the way.
Last season was something every player who was there at the end lifting the championship trophy over their head enjoyed and when asked about why he loved his rookie season he pointed to one thing “Last summer was the most fun I had playing baseball in a long time. I look forward to donning the pinstripes once again in 2022 and playing in front of our amazing fans at Labatt Park”
When discussing Wilkie’s return Roop Chanderdat was key to point out the various ways he makes a difference and the growth he saw out of the 23-year-old “Austin is a talented player that showed improvement and growth during our season last year. He has a lot of upsides and as he continues to develop he will find out he can impact the game in a lot of different ways.”
The London Majors are a member of Canada’s top baseball league, the Intercounty Baseball League. In 2021 the London Majors won the IBL Jack & Lynn Dominico Trophy. The 100-year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, with the league established in 1919, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind.
