Whalen powers Panthers past Baycats

KITCHENER – Stephen Whalen went 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs to lead the Kitchener Panthers to a 9-5 win over Barrie Sunday afternoon at Jack Couch Park.


Jorden Carthy had two hits, including a solo home run – his first longball of the season. Keegan Marsden singled twice and drove in a run, Liam Wilson had two RBI and Kenny Di Clemente scored twice.


Jacob Douglas (5-2) went six innings for the win. Three of the five runs he allowed were unearned. Gave up 10 hits, walked two and struck out five.


Baycats starter Juan Benitez (6-5) was touched for eight runs (six earned) on nine hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out five and didn’t issue a walk.


Brad McQuinn went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, Juan Familia hit a solo blast and James Anderson had three hits, an RBI and a run.


Kitchener improved to 14-21, and Barrie fell to 20-17.
