Welland wins 10th straight
KITCHENER – Welland’s latest win was an emphatic one.
The Jackfish reeled off its 10th straight victory Monday, beating Kitchener 17-3 at Jack Couch Park.
Gianfranco Morello went 4-for-6 and hit one of six Welland home runs. He drove in two and scored four times. Greyson Barrett, Tyler Dupuis, Dawson Tweet and Matteo Porcellato all hit two-run blasts, and Brandon Hupe went deep with two runners on base. Robert Mullen singled twice and drove in two, Steven Moretto went 2-for-6 with an RBI, and Jake Sanford had three of Welland’s 21 hits.
Ben Abram (5-0) earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.
Welland (13-3) leads Barrie and London by 2.5 games atop the IBL standings.
Nick Parsons and Blake Jacklin each hit solo home runs for the Panthers (4-13). Parsons finished with two RBI, while Eric Martin tripled and scored.
Jose Vasquez (1-3) was pulled with two outs in the fourth inning after giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
