Welland's late surge sinks Cardinals

HAMILTON -- Welland scored six straight runs to pull off a 13-10 win in Hamilton Sunday afternoon.
The Jackfish trailed for much of the game before tying the Cardinals with three runs in the sixth. They added two in the seventh and an insurance run in the ninth to finish the regular season 15-15. They'll host Barrie on Thursday to open the first round.
Matt Hilderbrandt went 5-for-6 with five RBI and two runs to lead Welland. Dennis Dei Baning singled, homered and drove in two, Brandon Nicholson went 3-for-6 with five runs, Zarley Cina had two hits and scored three times, while Dane Tofteland, Andrew Mercier and Nolan Pettipiece all drove in a run.
Casey Bouillere-Howard (1-1) went four scoreless innings in relief for the win. He gave up two hits and walked one. Tofteland struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his first save. Brandon Underhill was pulled with two out in the fourth inning, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits with three walks and a strikeout.
For Hamilton (11-19), Laine Renaud went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Brandon Nieva drove in two and scored twice, Jeremie Veilleux had four hits, three runs and RBI, and Ryan Freemantle and Jordan Young both added an RBI.
Clay Miller (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings. He walked one and struck out one. Burnside opened the game and yielded 10 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and three walks in six innings.
Seventh-place Hamilton will face Toronto in the first round.
