Welland hammers Hamilton
WELLAND – Welland blew open a close game with seven runs in the eighth inning and rolled to a 15-4 home win over Hamilton on Wednesday night.
Greyson Barrett’s grand slam was the biggest blow in the decisive frame. He added a single and scored four times. Gianfranco Morello drove in four on a pair of hits, jake Sanford went 3-for-6 with two RBI, Sam Cawker doubled twice and drove in three, Jonah Weisner and Brendan Luther each had two hits and an RBI, Matteo Porcellato went 3-for-5 and scored twice, and Brandon Hupe had two hits and two runs.
On the mound, Welland starter James Bradwell (1-0) allowed an unearned run over five innings to pick up the win. He scattered four hits, walked one and struck out six.
Carlos Teller took the loss for Hamilton (4-4). He allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits with a strikeout in two innings. Starter Ramon Henriquez went one inning and gave up a run on one hit and two walks.
Niko Kekatos led the Cards’ offence with three hits, two RBI and a run. Jaden Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Tyler Duncan singled twice and scored.
