Tuesday Highlights: Benitez throws a gem in Baycats win over Royals

Juan Benitez threw a two-hitter, while Noel McGarry-Doyle set the offensive table as the Barrie Baycats pounded out a 10-2 win over the Guelph Royals Tuesday during Intercounty Baseball League action at David E. Hastings Stadium.

Benitez pitched seven innings, only allowing two hits, while striking out four to earn the win on the mound.

McGarry-Doyle had three RBI, including the first of the game in the third inning and two more thanks to a single in the eighth. Domenico Morea had two RBI and a double.

The Baycats scored four times in the third inning and four more in the eighth, while adding singles in the fourth and sixth.

The Royals could only muster up five hits in the game. Yomar Concepcion was tagged with the loss. He threw six innings and struck out five.

The Baycats improve to 9-5 and host the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday at 7:35 p.m. The Royals are now 4-11 and host the London Majors at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
