Takamatsu leads Royals past Leafs

GUELPH – Garrett Takamatsu went 3-for-4 and finished a triple short of the cycle to lead Guelph to a 7-4 home win on Saturday afternoon over Toronto.  

The Royals’ third baseman doubled in the first inning, hit a solo home run in the third and added a single in the fifth. He also scored three times. Ethan Hammond and Ashton Patterson both drove in a run. 

On the mound, Arturo Alvarez (1-1) earned the win in relief. He allowed a run on two hits with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Edgar Garcia struck out two in a scoreless ninth for the save. Jordan Taylor started and went 3.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout.  

Guelph improved to 1-2.  

Marcus Knecht hit a two-run blast for the Leafs (1-3). Ryan Dos Santos and Rando Moreno both drove in a run.  

Josh Berenbaum (0-1) took the loss on the mound, yielding seven runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Three of the runs were unearned thanks to three Guelph errors. He walked five and struck out three.
