Sugi walks it off for Majors
LONDON - For the second time in two weeks, Ken Sugi walks it off, this time giving the London Majors a 2-1 win over the Welland Jackfish Friday at Labatt Park.
With the score tied in the 10th inning, Sugi’s single to left field scored Francisco Fajardo for the victory.
After Tucker Zdunich scored off an error in the seventh inning to give the Majors the lead, Greyson Barrett’s solo homer in the ninth inning tied things up for the Jackfish, setting up extra innings and Sugi’s heroics.
Skylar Janisse was credited with the win, while starter Victor Payono was at times brilliant striking out seven, and giving up three hits in six innings of work. Jackfish starter Teodoro Ortega was equally as brilliant, giving up three hits, while striking out seven in five innings of work. James Bradwell was tagged with the loss.
The Majors improve to 11-5 and host the Brantford Red Sox Sunday at 1pm. The Jackfish drop to 12-3. They host the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday at 6:05pm.
