Sucre shuts down Royals

GUELPH – Brantford righty Jeremias Sucre tossed seven shutout innings, and the Red Sox offence came alive late in a 3-1 win in Guelph on Canada Day.

Sucre (4-1) scattered six hits, walked one and fanned four. At the plate, Brantford’s Jeremie Veilleux and Vaibhav Desai each drove in a run in the sixth inning to open the scoring. Ethan Paulos scored in the seventh to add insurance for the Red Sox (8-12). Paulos and Kieran Bowles each had two hits.

J.D. Williams went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base for the Royals (10-7). Conner Morro singled and doubled.

Kyle Thomas (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over two innings. He walked one and struck out one. Jacob Kush started and went five scoreless innings, giving up two hits and walking two while racking up seven strikeouts.
