St. Kitts pitches Baycats past Red Sox
BARRIE – Matthew St. Kitts flirted with a no-hitter but settled for a complete-game, four-hit shutout to lead the Barrie Baycats to a 10-0 win over the Brantford Red Sox Saturday night at Coates Stadium.
Barrie leads the best-of-seven quarter-final 2-0.
St. Kitts (1-0) was four outs from a no-no before Austin Wilke singled with two outs in the eighth. St. Kitts walked one and finished with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Kevin Atkinson went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs. Starlin Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, Ryan Spataro had two hits, three runs and an RBI, Jon Waltenbury drove in a run, Kyle DeGrace singled twice and drove in two, and Branfy Infante picked up a pair of hits and scored twice.
Victor Mueses took the loss (0-1), allowing seven runs on nine hits with four walks and four punchouts.
