Six-run sixth sparks Cards

TORONTO – A six-run sixth inning jumpstarted the Hamilton Cardinals in their 10-5 win Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

Hamilton (11-10) had seven hits in the inning and took the lead for good after trailing by three. Connor Hicks and Tanner Rempel, who homered, each had two RBI, and Tyler Duncan went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Josh Niles and Brandon Nicholson both had two hits and drove in a run, Brendon Daley added an RBI, Dennis Dei Baning singled three times and scored once, and Luis Bernardo went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Kade Kozak (1-0) earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief after Takaki Eguchi went 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and five punchouts.

Angel Castro took the loss for the Leafs, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

At the plate, Johnathan Solazzo hit a solo home run. Charlie Towers went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Jordan Castaldo singled, doubled and had an RBI, and Ryan Dos Santos had three hits and scored.

Toronto fell to 7-18.
