Six-run eighth caps Baycats' comeback

BARRIE – A six-run eighth inning capped the Barrie Baycats' 12-9 comeback win over the visiting Brantford Red Sox Thursday night at Coates Stadium.

Barrie trailed 9-3 after Brantford scored seven in the fourth, but the Baycats chipped away with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth before overtaking the Red Sox two innings later.

July Player of the Month Jordan Castaldo drove in three and scored twice. His 47 RBI leads teammate Kevin Atkinson by one atop the IBL leaderboard. Atkinson drove in two and also scored twice against Brantford.

Kyle DeGrace singled and added a solo home run, Parker Walker and Ryan Rijo each had an RBI, and Branfy Infante went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.

Brad Bissell (1-1) earned the win in relief. He threw three scoreless innings, scattering four hits while walking two and striking out three. Starter Emilis Guerrero went four innings and allowed nine runs on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Brantford's Gianfranco Morello had three hits, two RBI and a run, Jesse Fishbaum added two hits, two RBI and two runs, and Luis Perez went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI and two runs.

Chris Iltshishin, Doug Parks and Jacob Reid had an RBI apiece.

Eric Lindsay took the loss, allowing six runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. Starter Abel De Los Santos went six innings and gave up six runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Barrie (25-11) is tied atop the standings with Kitchener, which has two games in hand. Brantford fell to 5-29.
