Seven-run seventh highlights Jackfish comeback

WELLAND – Ten straight runs, highlighted by a seven-run seventh, propelled the Welland Jackfish to a 10-9 win over Toronto Saturday.

Welland trailed 7-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, when it scored twice. The Jackfish (4-0) pulled ahead the following inning, scoring seven times on four hits while also taking advantage of a Maple Leafs’ error, as five of the runs were unearned.

Matt Hilderbrandt went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run. Ethan Hunt had two hits and drove in a run while scoring three times, Gianfranco Morello had an RBI and scored, Tyler Dupuis went 2-for-3 and Mike Wagner also drove in a run.

Brandon Underhill (1-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing four runs on four hits over 4.1 innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Chris Boatto earned his second save despite allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth. He stranded the tying run on third, getting Aiden McKaskie to pop out to the catcher to end the game.

Jackfish starter Wyatt Hummel gave up three runs on one hit in 2.1 innings, walking seven and striking out three.

Brady Cerkownyk went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Leafs (2-3). Johnathan Solazzo went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, McKaskie drove in a pair and scored twice, while Garrett Takamatsu, Nikko Khananisho and Noah Chan all drove in a run.

Chris Nagorski (0-1) took the loss, giving up a run on one hit in the eighth. He struck out one. Sebastian Kahn went seven innings and allowed nine runs (four earned) on nine hits with seven walks and two strikeouts.
