Sanford goes deep twice in Jackfish win
WELLAND – Jake Sanford had four hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in three to lead Welland to an 11-4 win Thursday over Kitchener.
Greyson Barrett went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, Ethan Hunt drove in two runs, Dawson Tweet had three hits, an RBI and a stolen base, Gianfranco Morello singled twice and drove in a run, and Robert Mullen went 3-for-4.
Ben Abram (9-2) struck out 11 over seven innings for the win. Three of the four runs he allowed were unearned. He scattered seven hits and didn’t issue a walk.
Welland (27-10) leads Barrie by 2.5 games atop the standings.
Simon Grinberg, Eric Martin and Nathan Laird all drove in a run for the Panthers (11-25). Raul Gonzalez had two hits and a stolen base.
David Bruinsma (0-1) was charged with the loss after being tagged for six runs (five earned) on three hits with three walks. He didn’t register an out after replacing Yadian Martinez, who went five innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
