Royals snap Baycats’ streak
BARRIE – Garrett Takamatsu homered, Edgar Garcia struck out 10, and the Guelph Royals ended Barrie’s six-game win streak with a 7-3 victory on Sunday at Athletic Kulture Stadium.
Takamatsu hit a two-run blast in the sixth inning and then walked with the bases loaded an inning later. Andy Leader had two RBI, Anderson Fenwick drove in a run, and Brando Leroux and Ashton Patterson each scored twice.
Garcia (1-1) was dominant, allowing two runs on three hits before being pulled with one out in the seventh. Brandon Deans finished up and gave up a run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts for his second save.
Guelph improved to 11-13.
For Barrie (13-10), Noel McGarry Doyle doubled and hit a solo home run. Nolan Machibroda added an RBI single, and Alex Wickett went 2-for-4.
Cesar Rosado (3-3) tossed five innings and allowed two runs on three hits to take the loss. He walked two and fanned five.
