Royals score early, often against Panthers
GUELPH – The Guelph Royals scored in each of the first four innings and cruised to a 15-5 win over Kitchener on Canada Day at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Royals leadoff hitter J.D. Williams went drove in four on a pair of hits. He also scored twice and stole his sixth base of the season. Conner Morro went 3-for-5 with five RBI, Malik Collymore singled twice, drove in a run and swiped three bases, Darius Barlas went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run, Jeff MacLeod scored twice, Brendan Keys drove in a run and scored three times and Kyle Kush turned the lineup over with two hits, two RBI and three runs.
Emilis Guerrero (4-2) went five scoreless innings for the win. He walked two and was touched for two hits.
Kevin Millar (0-1) took the loss. He was pulled with two outs in the third inning after surrendering seven runs on seven hits with four walks and a strikeout.
Liam Wilson hit a two-run home run and Evyn Sherman added a solo shot to lead the Panthers’ offence. Jett Jarvis had a pair of hits, Stephen Whalen tripled home a run and Robbie Gauthier added an RBI double.
Guelph improved to 12-7 and Kitchener dropped to 7-12.
