Royals’ pitchers stymie Majors

GUELPH – Two Guelph pitchers tossed a six-hit shutout and combined to strike out 10 in the Royals’ 5-0 win over London at David E. Hastings Field on Saturday.  

Jacob Kush (1-1) started and went seven innings, scattering five hits while walking one and striking out six. Nelson Mercado fanned four and walked one over the last two innings.  

Offensively, Ashton Patterson drove in two runs. Marc Nellis had two hits and an RBI, Andy Leader and David Alvarez had a pair of hits apiece, and Liam Wilson drove in a run. Guelph, after losing its first two games of the season, has now won three straight 

Eduardo De Oleo and Josh Niles both had two hits for the Majors (5-3).  

On the mound, Jose Arias (0-1) gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out two.
