Royals move on after sweep
GUELPH – The Royals are moving on.
Guelph completed its quarter-final sweep of Chatham-Kent with a 14-0 win Sunday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Garrett Takamatsu hit a grand slam as part of Guelph’s 14-hit attack. Josh Garton drilled a two-run home run, Andy Leader went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Conner Morro drove in two on four hits and also scored three times, Carson Burns had two hits and Ashton Patterson drove in a run.
Kyle Thomas (1-0) struck out seven over six innings to earn the win. He scattered five hits and didn’t issue a walk.
Seth Strong went 3-for-4 for the Barnstormers. Anthony Polowick had a pair of hits.
Cam O’Reilly (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits with two walks in one inning. Five of the runs allowed by Chatham-Kent pitchers were unearned thanks to four errors.
