Royals keep third place in play with win

GUELPH – Third place is still in play.

Guelph’s 8-2 win Tuesday night over London at David E. Hastings Stadium means Wednesday’s rematch at Labatt Park will determine the final playoff seed. London (25-16) would lock up third with a win, but the Majors would also finish third if they lose and keep the spread within six runs.

J.D. Williams and Ashton Patterson each drove in two runs and scored twice for the Royals (24-17). Garrett Takamatsu had two RBI on two hits, Andy Leader doubled, tripled and drove in a run, and Josh Garton and Frankin Torres both singled twice and scored.

Kyle Thomas (3-1) allowed a run on three hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out three. Jacob Kush struck out six over 2.1 scoreless innings to earn his second save.

Eduardo De Oleo and Starling Joseph both had a pair of hits and an RBI. Gibson Krzeminski singled twice.

Jose Arias (4-6) gave up four runs on six hits in six innings to take the loss. He walked three and struck out eight.
