Royals even series
GUELPH – Guelph handed Welland its first loss of the playoffs, beating the Jackfish 8-1 on Sunday at David E. Hastings Stadium.
The best-of-five series is tied 1-1, and Game 3 is Tuesday in Welland.
Conner Morro and Andy Leader each drove in two for the Royals. Garrett Takamatsu and Keinner Pina had two hits and a run apiece, and J.D. Williams, Franklin Torres, Liam Wilson and Ashton Patterson all had an RBI.
Jacob Kush (2-0) was dominant on the mound, allowing a run on six hits over six innings for the win. He walked one and fanned five.
Greyson Barrett drove in Welland’s run on a sacrifice fly. Matteo Porcellato went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Euclides Leyer (1-1) took the loss. He yielded seven runs on eight hits with three walks and six punchouts in 5.2 innings.
