Royals Edge Out Leafs

GUELPH – Two runs in the eighth inning gave the Guelph Royals a come from behind 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night in Guelph.
Dalton Pompey led off the eighth with a solo home run to tie the game and Kyle Kush’s ground ball which was booted by second baseman Grant Tamane allowed Conner Morro to score the winning run and give Guelph their 26th win against 11 losses, solidifying their hold on third place. The Leafs fell to 22-16.
Josh Garton added a two-run home run for Guelph in the second inning while Johnathan Solazzo had two hits and an RBI for Toronto.
Claudio Custodio (10-0) was the winning pitcher, going eight innings and allowing only four hits, three runs (two earned) while walking four and striking out 11. Andrew Case picked up his third save in pitching the ninth.
Dustin Richardson (0-1) in relief of starter Angel Castro took the loss. Castro went six innings, giving up just four hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Richardson allowed only one hit, two runs (one earned) with two walks and three strikeouts.
