Royals' Concepcion dominates Baycats
GUELPH – Yomar Concepcion struck out 14 in a complete-game one-hitter as the Guelph Royals blanked the Barrie Baycats 9-0 Tuesday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Kevin Atkinson broke up Concepcion's no-hit bid to lead off the ninth. Concepcion (2-2) walked six and threw 84 of 139 pitches for strikes as he helped end the Baycats' seven-game win streak.
Offensively, Josh Garton's grand slam capped an eight-run eighth for the Royals (8-11). Ethan Hammond went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Darius Barlas and Brendan Keys each drove in a run and scored, and Angel Villalona added two hits and a run.
Santos Arias (4-1) took the loss, giving up an unearned run on four hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out six.
Barrie dropped to 14-3 and is tied with Kitchener for first place.
