Renaud powers Cards past Red Sox

HAMILTON – Laine Renaud went 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBI to lead the Hamilton Cardinals to an 18-1 win over Brantford Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.


Tristan Osika had two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Cards, who scored five first-inning runs and didn’t look back. Luis Jean singled and scored twice, Josh Niles and Anthony Buonaiuto each had two hits, two RBI and combined to score five runs, Ryan Burnside went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs, and Tyler Duncan and Jeremie Veilleux each drove in a run.


Nick Davies (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out four in 1.1 scoreless innings. Hamilton starter Adrian Salcedo was lifted with two outs in the fourth after giving up a run on three hits with six strikeouts.


Corey Boehmer took the loss for Brantford. Five of seven runs he allowed over two innings were unearned. He yielded seven hits, striking out one and walking one.


Jesse Fishbaum went 3-for-4, Liam Sutherland had two hits and an RBI and Nick Burdett doubled for his 400th IBL hit.

Hamilton moved to 8-26, and Brantford fell to 2-32.
