Remembering Gary "Max" Millman
The Intercounty Baseball League extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Gary "Max" Millman, a dedicated and respected member of the IBL community. Gary served as an umpire in our league for 23 seasons, from 1966 to 1988, and was the IBL’s longest-serving Umpire-in-Chief, holding the role from 1970 to 1988. His commitment to the game and unwavering leadership left a lasting impact on generations of players, officials, and fans.
Beyond the baseball diamond, Gary was also a passionate hockey player, having been drafted by the Montreal Canadiens before continuing his playing career in Austria, Germany, and Holland.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Margot Millman, and his children Cheryl, Lynn, Verena, and Lee. He will also be dearly missed by his seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM at the Henry Walser Funeral Home Ltd. (507 Frederick St, Kitchener, ON N2B 2A5). A funeral service will follow on Monday at 3:30 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Dialysis Unit at Grand River Hospital Foundation (grhf.ca) in Gary’s memory.
Gary's legacy and love for sport will be remembered with deep appreciation and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
