Red Sox walks off Baycats

BRANTFORD – David Alvarez’s fourth hit of the game was the biggest.

The Brantford outfielder singled home Jaret Lupton in the bottom of the 10th to give the Red Sox a walk-off 9-8 win over Barrie on Sunday afternoon at Arnold Anderson Stadium. Alvarez finished the day 4-for-6 and drove in two as Brantford improved to 7-10.

The Red Sox, after scoring four times in the seventh to take its second lead of the game, fell behind in the top of the ninth after Barrie scored five times. Brantford sent the game to extras with three in its half of the ninth to set up the walk-off win.

Graham Tebbit went 4-for-5 with two RBI, Nick Burdett drove in two, Kieran Bowles had three hits and an RBI, and Jeremie Veilleux and Matt Torresan each drove in a run.

Kyle Nash earned the win in relief. He struck out one of the five batters he faced. Jeremias Sucre started and went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Royce Ando and Brad McQuinn each drove in two for the Baycats (9-6). Canice Ejoh went 3-for-6, Noel McGarry-Doyle, Nolan Machibroda and Ryan Rijo each had two hits and an RBI.

Ryan Lacasse, after getting the last out of the ninth, allowed the winning run in the 10th to take the loss. Carlos Sano started on the mound for Barrie and went 6.2 innings, giving up five runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts.
