Red Sox top Royals in extras
BRANTFORD – Brantford scored three times in the bottom of the 10th inning to pull out a 5-4 win Sunday afternoon over Guelph at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
After giving up two runs in the top of the 10th, Rene Tachioka started the Red Sox rally with an RBI single to make it a one-run deficit. With one out and the bases loaded, Andrew Savage chopped a grounder to short. Guelph got the runner at second, but Savage beat the throw to first. Brody Black scored from third to tie the game, and Tachioka raced home from second for the winning run as Brantford (10-29) won for the fourth time in six games, with each victory coming at home.
Savage finished with three RBI, and Christian Ortega drove in the other run. Black went 3-for-5 and scored twice.
Jorge De la Cruz (1-2) earned the win in relief after yielding three runs on three hits in three innings. He walked one and struck out three. Leandro Meija started and went four innings, allowing a run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
For sixth-place Guelph (18-21), Ethan Hammond went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Conner Morro and Keinner Pina each had two hits and an RBI,
Edgar Garcia (2-3) took the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits in 1.2 innings of relief. He walked one and struck out one. Andrew Case started and spun five shutout innings with a walk and three punchouts.
