Red Sox rout Barnstormers

CHATHAM – Rain was the only thing stopping the Red Sox on Saturday night.

Brantford pounded out 14 hits in an 18-5 win that was cut short after seven innings once the skies opened up at Fergie Jenkins Field.

Vaibhav Desai went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI for the Red Sox (2-7). He also scored four times. Jeremie Veilleux singled, homered and drove in two, Ethan Paulos went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs, Kieran Bowles drove in a run on three hits, Gus Wilson singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI, and Jordan Lewis drove in a run.

Josh Laukkanen (1-1) struck out eight over six innings to collect the win. He was charged with three runs on six hits and a walk.

Chatham starter Cam O’Reilly (0-1) gave up eight runs on seven hits in two innings for the loss. He walked two and didn’t register a strikeout.

Seth Strong continued his torrid start to the season, driving in four on two hits to push his batting average to .419. Braxton Haggith drove in the other run. Spencer Marcus went 3-for-4 and scored, and Lee Kucera singled twice and scored twice.

Chatham-Kent dropped its seventh straight after opening its first season with two wins.
