Red Sox pick up first win

HAMILTON – The Brantford Red Sox are winless no more.

After 19 straight losses to open the season, the Red Sox left Hamilton Friday night with a 6-5 victory.

Nick Burdett went 2-for-4 with two RBI – one of which came in the top of the ninth to give Brantford its first lead of the game. Evan Ryan drove in two on a sixth-inning single, Roger Keen had an RBI and Colton Fountain went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Garrett Larner (1-2) earned the win, giving up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits over eight innings. He walked one and struck out eight. Brian Lui worked around a ninth-inning walk to seal the win and his first save.

For Hamilton (6-16), Justin Gideon went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI atop the Cards’ lineup. Tyler Duncan, Josh Niles, Nathan Scragg and Roger Keen all had an RBI, while Sean Pettener had three hits and scored once.

Jacob Gajic (2-2) took the loss, allowing an unearned run on three hits over four innings. He walked two and struck out two. Cards’ starter Gabe Braun went five innings and yielded five runs (three earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out five.
