Red Sox edge Panthers
KITCHENER – Rene Tachioka did a little bit of everything in Thursday’s 4-3 Brantford win in Kitchener.
The Red Sox left-fielder went 2-for-4 with a single and stolen base and then a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Christian Ortega had two hits and an RBI, Andrew Savage singled twice, and he later scored on Lucas Lefebvre’s single.
Colby Klepper (1-4) struck out five over three scoreless relief innings to earn the win on the mound. Jorge De La Cruz struck out the side in the ninth for his first save. Nicholai Arbach went the first five frames and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and eight punchouts as the Red Sox improved to 4-14.
Yosuke Fukie hit a two-run single for the Panthers (6-12), and Runta Osawa had three of Kitchener’s six hits.
Andy Vargas (0-5) took the loss on the mound after giving up three runs on six hits in seven innings. He walked three and fanned five.
