Red hot Royals beat Panthers
KITCHENER – Guelph's offence kept rolling on Sunday, making the most of 20 hits in a 19-7 win in Kitchener.
Keinner Pena homered twice and drove in eight for Guelph, which has scored 49 runs during its four-game win streak. Franklin Torres went 6-for-6 atop the lineup with a home run and two RBI. He also scored four times. Andy Leader had four hits, including a home run and two RBI, Matthew Ward homered and drove in two, Brando Leroux had a pair of RBI, Anderson Fenwick drove in a run, and Ashton Patterson singled twice and had an RBI.
Claudio Custodio (1-0) threw four innings of relief to earn the win on the mound in his first appearance of the season. He allowed five unearned runs on four hits, walked one and struck out three. He took over for Antonio Frias, who yielded two runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Guelph improved to 15-18.
For Kitchener (13-21), Yordan Manduley hit a solo home run, and Nicolas KyRose added a three-run blast. Yosukie Fuji singled, doubled and drove in two.
Andy Vargas (1-8) took the loss after giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits over 5.1 innings. He walked two and fanned five.
