Red-hot Baycats win seventh straight

HAMILTON – The red-hot Barrie Baycats stretched their win streak to seven with a 14-5 win over the Hamilton Cardinals Sunday afternoon at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Kevin Atkinson led the way with three hits, including his seventh home run, five RBI and three runs. Carson Burns went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, Kyle DeGrace picked up four hits, Jordan Castaldo, Steve Lewis and Jeff Cowan all drove in a run and scored, Starlin Rodriguez singled, doubled and scored, and Ryan Spataro had a hit and three runs atop the order.

Matthew St. Kitts (1-0) went five innings for the win, allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Clay Miller took the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits in two innings. He struck out four and walked two.

Offensively, Justin Gideon doubled twice and tripled while driving in a run and scoring once. Chris Beer and Jake Chiaravalle each had two hits and an RBI, Connor Bowie went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, and Jon Dziomba singled and scored twice.

First-place Barrie improved to 14-2, and fourth-place Hamilton dropped to 6-8.
