Pompey powers Royals past Red Sox

BRANTFORD – Dalton Pompey finished a home run short of the cycle to lead the Guelph Royals to a 14-11 win in Brantford Friday night.
The former Toronto Blue Jays’ outfielder drove in four and scored three times. Sean Reilly drilled a two-run blast in the seventh inning, Justin Interisano had an RBI and scored twice and Brendan Keys had two hits, an RBI and a run.
Lukas Berry started for the Royals (9-7) and allowed nine runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. He walked six and struck out nine. Ben Reid (2-0) finished the game to earn the win, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
Evan Ryan hit a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who fell to 0-15. Spencer Jamieson went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, Liam Sutherland had three hits, an RBI and two runs, Jesse Fishbaum drove in two, Troy Banks had an RBI, Nick Burdett went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and Jaret Lupton picked up a pair of hits and scored twice.
Sloppy defence hurt Brantford starter Garrett Larner, who gave up seven unearned runs on four hits over 4.2 innings. He walked seven and struck out three. Gabe Bruder (0-4) took the loss, giving up two runs on a hit and a walk in one-third of an inning in relief.
