Pena's solo blast sinks Red Sox in extras

LONDON – Ismael Pena's solo home run in the bottom of the 12th lifted the London Majors to a 12-11 win over the Brantford Red Sox Friday night at Labatt Park.

London improved to 1-2, while Brantford dropped to 1-1.

Pena finished 2-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. He also picked up the win on the mound, throwing two scoreless, hitless innings of relief. He struck out two and walked two.

London's Phillip Thrappas had four hits, an RBI, two runs and three steals. Jonathan Duforest singled, doubled and added two RBI and two runs, Cleveland Brownlee drove in a pair, and Michael Ambrose and Evan Britt each scored and had an RBI.

Simon Mercedes started and went five innings, scattering eight hits and allowing four runs (three earned) with a walk and seven strikeouts.

For Brantford, Quinton Bent went 3-for-7 with two runs, while Chris Iltshishin and Toure Sinclair each drove in a run and scored once.

Nic Burdett homered and drove in two, Matt McGovern had two hits and an RBI, Fernando Suarez was 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI, and Nick Zaryzcki had two hits, two runs and an RBI.

McGovern took the loss on the mound, allowing just three runs (one earned) over four innings. He scattered two hits and walked three and struck out four.

Starter Michael Bannon went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with talk walks and six strikeouts.
