Payano dazzles in Majors' win

LONDON – Victor Payano struck out nine over seven shutout innings, and the London Majors’ offence took care of the rest in a 7-0 home opener win over Guelph on Friday night. 

Payano (1-0) allowed just six baserunners, giving up four hits and walking two.  

At the plate, London leadoff hitter Toby Simmons went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Kaiden Cardoso hit a two-run triple, Francisco Fajardo went 3-for-5 with an RBI and had one of three London steals, and Kyle Maves and Ty Mosher each had a pair of hits.  

London improved to 2-0. 

Garrett Takamatsu had two of Guelph’s five hits in the Royals’ season opener. 

Arturo Alvarez (0-1) took the loss on the mound after giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits in three innings. He walked one and fanned four.
