Panthers survive ninth-inning collapse
WELLAND – The Kitchener Panthers survived a six-run collapse in the ninth by scoring once in the 12th inning of a 7-6 road win over the Welland Jackfish Thursday night.
Andy Leader had two hits in the win, including the go-ahead single that scored Ryley Davenport in extra innings. Keegan Marsden, Zarley Cina and Tanner Nivins all had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Nivins also scored. Yorbis Borroto singled, doubled and scored, Liam Wilson went 3-for-6 with a run, Brian Burton had two hits, two RBI and a run, and Mike Gordner went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.
Brady Schnarr (3-1) picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings of relief.
Yoen Socarras started and went seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. Socarras was in line for the win, but Welland stormed back from a 6-0 deficit in the ninth to send the game to extras.
Casey Bouillere-Howard (0-5) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Chris Boatto went seven innings and surrendered two runs on 10 hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Offensively, Caleb Feuerstake drove in two and scored, Brendon Dadson singled twice and added an RBI, while DeAndre Asbury-Heath and Nolan Pettipiece both drove in a run and scored.
First-place Kitchener improved to 22-9, while fourth-place Welland is 17-14.
