Panthers roar back to beat Majors

KITCHENER – The Kitchener Panthers roared back from an early deficit to beat the London Majors 19-10 Sunday afternoon at Jack Couch Park.

Kitchener trailed 4-1 before pulling away with nine runs in the fifth.

Tanner Nivins hit two of the Panthers' six home runs, driving in four and scoring three times. Colin Gordner hit a solo home run, Brian Burton and Zachary Johnson each drilled two-run shots, and Keegan Marsden went deep with two runners on base.

Andy Leader drove in two and scored twice, Zarley Cina went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while Jeff Hunt and Mike Andrulis each had an RBI and combined to score three times.

Jasvir Rakkar (1-0) struck out eight in six innings for the win. He allowed four runs on five hits with a walk.

Cleveland Brownlee hit a grand slam for the Majors, who dropped to 2-8.

Jonathan Thibodeau and Byron Reichstein each hit a two-run blast. Carlos Artega went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs, and Kyle Gormandy scored twice.

Phil Saad (0-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk over 4.2 innings.
