Panthers rally to beat Leafs

KITCHENER – Jeff Hunt's two-out, bases-loaded single scored Andy Leader in the bottom of the ninth to give the Kitchener Panthers a 6-5 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night at Jack Couch Park.

Kitchener rallied from a 5-0 deficit two innings into the game with one run in the fourth, two in both the seventh and eighth, and the winner in the ninth.

Yorbis Borroto hit a solo home run and scored twice, Mike Gordner homered and drove in two, and Brian Burton and Liam Wilson had an RBI apiece.

Miguel Lahera (2-0) picked up the win after striking out the side in the ninth.

Yoennis Yera started and went five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Kitchener improved to 18-6.

Zac Orchard went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run for the Leafs (9-16). Ryan Santos drove in a run and scored twice, Marcus Knecht had two hits, an RBI and a run, Damon Topolie singled and doubled, and Cooper Lamb added a pair of singles and an RBI.

Starter Andrew Simonetti allowed three runs (two unearned) on six hits over 2.1 innings. He walked one and struck out one.
