Panthers pounce on Red Sox
KITCHENER – Kitchener, sparked by a 14-run second inning, cruised to a 20-5 win over Brantford on Saturday at Jack Couch Park.
The Panthers (3-3) sent 17 batters to the plate in the second frame and racked up eight hits, led by Caleb Cain-Plante's grand slam. Plante also hit an RBI single in his first at bat of the inning. Yordan Manduley added a two-run blast and two-run single in the inning.
Yosuke Fujie went 3-for-4 with a solo home run atop the lineup. He scored four times. Jamie Cabral hit a bases-clearing triple, Yosvani Penalver drove in two, and Nicolas KyRose and Nick Parsons both drove in a run.
Yadian Martinez (2-2) threw four one-hit innings of relief to earn the win. He walked one and struck out seven. Evan Elliott started and went four innings, giving up four runs on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts.
For Brantford (1-6), Cassidy Watt and Max Schmarder each hit two-run home runs.
Pedro De Los Santos took the loss on the mound. He was touched up for 10 runs (six earned) on six hits and two walks and was pulled with two outs in the second.
