Panthers’ pitchers combine on shutout

KITCHENER – Three Panthers’ pitchers combined to shut out Guelph in Kitchener’s 4-0 win Sunday afternoon at Jack Couch Park 

Yadian Martinez (3-2) did the bulk of the work, averaging a strikeout per inning over seven frames. He scattered three hits and walked one. Owen MacNeil and Yankiel Mauris finished up with two hitless innings.  

Yosvani Penalver provided all the offence Kitchener (5-5) needed with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Trent Lawson also drove in a pair, and Yordan Manduley singled and doubled.  

Liam Wilson had a pair of hits for the Royals (4-6), who dropped their fourth straight game.   

Sebastian Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings. He walked one and struck out three.
