Panthers Hold Off Royals for 7-4 Victory in Guelph
GUELPH — The Kitchener Panthers used timely hitting and a strong start from Yadian Martinez to earn a 7-4 road win over the Guelph Royals on Tuesday night in Intercounty Baseball League action at David E. Hastings Stadium.
Martinez was sharp for the Panthers, tossing seven innings of five-hit ball, allowing just one earned run while striking out seven to pick up the win. Danny Garcia came on in the ninth to record the save.
At the plate, Runta Osawa led the way for the Panthers with a 2-for-4 night, driving in a run and swiping three bases. AJ Karosas and Jamie Cabral each chipped in an RBI triple to spark the Panthers’ offense. The Panthers pounced with 10 hits, capitalizing on six Guelph errors.
The Royals rallied late, scoring three in the seventh and one in the eighth, highlighted by a solo home run from Conner Morro — his first of the season. Blake Simpson added an RBI double for the Royals, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.
Edgar Garcia took the loss for Guelph, surrendering five runs (two earned) over 4.1 innings of work.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-13, and host the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers on July 3 at 7:30pm. The Royals drop to 9-11, and visit the Barrie Baycats on July 3 at 7:35pm.
