Panthers extend series, season

KITCHENER – The wait was worth it for the Kitchener Panthers.  

After Game 4 of the IBL Dominico Cup final was postponed twice, the game was played Wednesday at Jack Couch Park and the Panthers extended the series and their season with a 5-1 win over the Barrie Baycats. 

Barrie leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 and can clinch a sixth straight title Thursday night at home.  

Kitchener erased a 1-0 deficit with five runs in the sixth inning. Zarley Cina hit a solo home run, and Mike Gordner went deep with two on base. Liam Wilson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Brian Burton and Yorbis Borroto each had a hit and scored once.  

Jasvir Rakkar (3-1) went 6.1 innings for the win, allowing a run on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. 

Jordan Castaldo drove in the Baycats’ lone run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Ryan Spataro doubled and stole a base, and Kyle DeGrace also doubled.  

Emilis Guerrero (4-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out five.
