Panthers end Jackfish’s streak

WELLAND – Kitchener went into Welland on Friday night and ended the Jackfish’s eight-game win streak.  

Yunior Ibarra drove in a pair of runs in the Panthers’ 6-5 victory. Ibarra’s bases-loaded single capped a five-run, five-hit first inning that was aided by a Welland error. AJ Karosas and Yosvani Penalver also drove in a run in the opening frame. Charlie Towers went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Mateo Zeppieri had two hits and scored twice.  

Andy Vargas (1-7) threw six innings for the win on the mound. He allowed two runs on seven hits with four walks and seven punchouts. Danny Garcia yielded a run on three hits over the last three innings to earn his third save. He walked one and struck out two. 

Kitchener improved to 12-19.  

Greyson Barrett drove in two runs for the first-place Jackfish (22-7). Pier-Olivier Boucher had an RBI, Brendan Luther had two hits, and Jonah Weisner scored twice.  

Jose Dominguez (4-2) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 5.2 innings. He walked two and fanned five.
