Nine-run first sends Leafs to blowout win

TORONTO – A nine-run first inning was all Toronto needed as the Maple Leafs cruised to a 20-4 win Wednesday night over Barrie at Christie Pits.

Justin Marra led the way with four hits, including a home run, five RBI and three runs. Johnathan Solazzo went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs, Jose Vinicio had two hits, two RBI and four runs, Jordan Castaldo drove in a run and scored three times, Aidan McAskie had two hits, an RBI and scored once, Dan Marra drove in three, Greg Carrington drilled a two-run blast, Damon Topolie went 2-for-6 with an RBI and three runs and Luca Boscarino added an RBI and scored.

Angelo Castro earned the win with six innings of two-run ball.

Baycats starter Henrry Civil took the loss, allowing 14 runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings. He walked eight and struck out four.

Adam Odd drove in two on a pair of hits, while Carson Burns went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Royce Ando had an RBI and Owen Jansen scored a pair of runs.

Toronto improved to 14-11, and Barrie dropped to 16-10.
