Marra leads Leafs past Welland

TORONTO – Justin Marra homered and drove in three in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 6-4 win over Welland on Sunday at Christie Pits.

Ryan Dos Santos added a two-run blast for Toronto (2-5). On the mound, Julian Valdez (1-0) struck out one of four batters he faced for the win. Dustin Richardson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. He gave up a hit and walked one and struck out one. Leafs’ starter Jesse Hodges was pulled with two out in the fifth. He gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Matteo Porcellato went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Welland (3-3). Cole Cote added an RBI.

Francisco Jimenez was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in three innings. He walked six and didn’t record a strikeout.
