Maple Leafs strike first against Barrie

TORONTO – Toronto struck first in its quarter-final series with Barrie, taking Game 1 with a 5-3 victory Friday night at Christie Pits.


Jordan Castaldo drove in two for the Maple Leafs. Marcus Knecht singled and drove in two, and he came around to score on Connor Lewis’ single later in the first inning. Jose Vinicio and Justin Marra each had two hits and two runs.


Angel Castro picked up the win, giving up three runs on eight hits over eight innings. He walked two and struck out nine.

For Barrie, Ryan Rijo homered and drove in two. Tyler Plumpton had two hits.


Frank Garces took the loss, giving up five runs on 11 hits over eight innings. He walked two and struck out 11.
