Majors win home opener
LONDON – Three London players went deep as the Majors scored early and often in a 10-4 home-opening win over Welland on Friday night at Labatt Park.
Kaiden Cardoso and Starling Joseph each had three hits, including a home run, with two RBI and two runs apiece. Eduardo De Oleo also homered and drove in two. Victor Plaz, Cleveland Brownlee and Tommy Reyes-Cruz each drove in a run.
Jose Arias (2-0) went five innings for the win, allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and five punchouts. Victor Payano earned the four-inning save by striking out five and allowing one baserunner over four scoreless innings of relief.
For Welland (0-1), Steven Moretto, Greyson Barrett and Ethan Hunt all drove in a run. Gianfranco Morello singled, scored and stole two bases.
Rich Corrente (0-1) took the loss, giving up eight runs (two earned) on 11 hits through four innings. He walked two and struck out two.
